Step into the world of "Gulachi"

The name “Gulachi” is inspired by a flower indigenous to the Santhal community—one of the largest tribal communities of India. This flower holds deep cultural, traditional, and religious significance and beautifully represents the rich heritage of Santhal culture—just like our sarees.

Established on 1st January 2022, Gulachi was born with a dream—to take the artistry of weavers from Odisha and West Bengal to the international market. What began as a small outlet in Bisoi, Mayurbhanj District, Odisha, along with online sales and marketing, has grown through four years of dedication, perseverance, and strong networking. Today, we proudly operate our new showroom in Baripada, Mayurbhanj, marking an important milestone in our journey.

Gulachi began its journey exclusively with Santhali Handloom sarees, deeply rooted in tradition and heritage. As we evolved, so did our creative vision. Today, we have expanded our collection to include Fusion Sarees—a unique blend that fuses design elements and motifs from various tribal communities, bringing together diverse cultural expressions into contemporary yet culturally rich weaves.

Expanding beyond sarees, Gulachi has now begun introducing a wider range of handcrafted products. Our collection includes Handbags, Dress Materials, Dupattas, Long Shrugs, and Jackets for Women, along with newly introduced Jackets for Men. Each product carries forward our signature tribal aesthetics while blending comfort, functionality, and modern style.

From tradition to innovation, Gulachi continues to honour its roots while embracing creative evolution—bringing tribal craftsmanship into everyday fashion for every household.

Meet the Founder

Pinky Majhi, a homemaker from Mayurbhanj District, Odisha, is the visionary founder behind Gulachi.

A graduate of SKDAV College, Rourkela, where her father, Muchiram Majhi, served in the Indian Railways. Pinky’s journey into entrepreneurship is a story of passion and inspiration. Though she has no formal education or professional training in fashion or textiles, her natural creativity and refined aesthetic sense led her to build the brand “Gulachi” from the ground up.

Formally trained in Indian Classical Music, Pinky has always nurtured three deep passions—Music, Food, and Sarees. These passions shaped her artistic sensitivity and attention to detail, which are now reflected in Gulachi’s thoughtfully curated designs.

She firmly believes that creating something meaningful does not require degrees, but rather patience, passion, and perseverance. Without relying on aggressive marketing strategies, Pinky built Gulachi organically—through her natural sales skills, strong support from family and friends, and a deep faith in the quality of her products. By letting the sarees speak for themselves, she successfully carved a niche in the market.

“We don’t have many high-end Tribal Sarees in the market, and I wish to change that,” says Pinky.

With this vision, she continues striving to make Gulachi a globally recognized brand while staying rooted in tradition.

At home, she enjoys experimenting with new recipes and singing classical ragas—bringing the same warmth, creativity, and curiosity into her work that defines her personal life.
