Our Journey

Rooted in the cultural richness of the Santhal community, Gulachi was founded with a dream to honour tradition while redefining it for the modern world. Inspired by the sacred Gulachi flower, our brand carries forward the spirit, identity, and artistry of tribal heritage.

Gulachi began its journey on 1st January 2022 with a modest investment of ₹5,00,000 and a small store in Bisoi. What started as a humble initiative soon grew into a movement driven by passion, perseverance, and purpose.

Traditional tribal sarees were typically shorter in length and width—covering only up to the knees instead of the usual 6 yards—and were thick, heavy, coarse, and woven from low-count cotton. While these sarees hold deep cultural value, we envisioned something more versatile without losing authenticity.

At Gulachi, we introduced sarees crafted from high-count cotton, designed to be over 6.5 meters long and 42 inches wide, offering both comfort and elegance while preserving tribal motifs and identity. This thoughtful innovation allowed us to respect tradition while adapting it for contemporary wear.

We initially focused exclusively on Santhali handloom sarees, later expanding into Fusion Sarees that blend design elements from various tribal communities—creating culturally rich yet modern weaves.

The early days were not easy. The market was largely dominated by polyester Santhali textiles, making it difficult for authentic handloom products to find space. Marketing was a significant challenge.

However, through smart, targeted marketing strategies, consistent branding, and a strong focus on product quality, we gradually captured our share of the market. Social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram became powerful tools in building our online presence and connecting directly with customers.

Participating in exhibitions played a crucial role in boosting our visibility. Since our inception, we have taken part in at least five exhibitions every year, strengthening our network and expanding our customer base.

From serving local communities in Odisha and West Bengal, we gradually created demand in international markets as well. Today, we proudly deliver our products to Indians settled across foreign countries—carrying a piece of home to every corner of the world.

Our journey also marked an important milestone with the opening of our new showroom in Baripada, symbolizing growth, trust, and community support.
